Tournament Format
There will be three concurrent tournaments:
1) Official Team Tournament
2) Open Tournament
3) 9x9 Self-Pairing Tournament

Official Team Tournament

Each registered high school or university will submit ONE team consisting of 3 or more players. There is no maximum to the number of players allowed per team.

Each team will play 3 official team games against another team per round. A computer program will be used to match teams together and select 3 representatives from each team to play the team games. The algorithm minimizes the rank differences in each game.

Games will be played using Japanese Rules, HDC, Komi 6.5, 30 min + Canadian byo-yomi 10 min/40 moves.
YES, unlike in previous years, the team games will be handicapped!

Awards include trophies, certificates, and/or cash prizes.

Open Tournament

The Open Tournament is an individual tournament open to anyone in the community, including those not in high school or university. Note that everyone who is registered in the Team Tournament is automatically registered for the Open Tournament. Note also that if a player registered in the Team Tournament is not chosen to represent their team in an official team game, then he/she will be matched with a player in the open tournament. Any official team games played will also count towards the player's individual score in the open tournament.

Games will be played using Japanese Rules, HDC, Komi 6.5, 30 min + Canadian byo-yomi 10 min/40 moves.

Awards include trophies, certificates, and/or cash prizes.

9x9 Self-Pairing Tournament

This will be a self-pairing tournament, mostly geared towards beginner players. However, everyone registered in any of the other two tournaments is automatically registered in the 9x9 tournament. Players can choose the number of games they play, whom to play, and when to play, provided that they can find a suitable opponent. Once two players have decided on a match, they must register their game, play the game, and register the result of the game.

Awards include certificates and/or cash prizes.
